The many possibilities outside the campsite

There is much to do in Walcheren outside the campsite. For example, you can walk to the beautiful beach or to the centre of Westkapelle. Rent a bicycle or mountain bike in one of the nearby bicycle shops and make a nice cycle tour across Walcheren. If you prefer a day of shopping, you can visit the lively town of Middelburg. Whatever you are looking for, Walcheren offers possibilities for both young and old.

The bathing beach

Situated on the most westerly point of the Netherlands and surrounded by the North Sea along three sides. You will certainly not be short of beach fun in Westkapelle. The first beach in Westkapelle, 'het gat', is within walking distance of the campsite, and a sandy beach stretching for kilometres to Vlissingen begins on the south side of Westkapelle. The beaches around Westkapelle are very clean, well-maintained and have good facilities. You can recognise this by the blue flag, an international award for the quality of the beach.

On the beaches, you will find many cosy beach pavilions, each with their own character and concept. Here you can enjoy a refreshing drink or a full 3-course dinner with a view over the beach.

The picturesque town of Westkapelle

The campsite is situated just at the edge of the lovely village of Westkapelle. With a short walk you are in the main street where you can find several terraces and restaurants. For shopping, you do not need to leave the village either; you can go to the local bakery and supermarket.

Westkapelle has a lot of history. The local Dike and War Museum Het Polderhuis tells a lot about the Second World War. During the bombing of the dykes of Walcheren, the village was even largely flooded. On top of the dike near the museum you will find the Landing Monument, the Sherman Tank of Westkapelle.

The Lighthouse

Westkapelle is watched over by the 2 lighthouses 'T' lage licht' located on the seawall and 'T' hoog licht' located in the village on the Zuidstraad. You can actually climb lighthouse 'T high light' during opening hours. From the top deck, you can enjoy a beautiful view over Walcheren and the North Sea, and in clear weather it is even possible to spot Zeeuws-Vlaanderen on the other side. On the different floors of this lighthouse, there is also a small museum where you can learn about the history of the building.

The lighthouse is still burning every evening and can be easily seen from the campsite.

There is much to do in beautiful Walcheren, for young and old. Rent a bicycle explore the nearby cycling routes and tour the beautiful Zeeland landscape.There are also many nice villages and nearby cities. For example, take a look at Veere with its picturesque old center or the boulevard in Vlissingen, the longest boulevard in the Netherlands! If you are out on a day of shopping, the long shopping street in Middelburg is also definitely worth a visit.The Oosterscheldekering is also a short distance from the houses and can even be reached via the beach. take a look at the largest Dutch delta work.
